  Government Notice
The following types of licences are renewable in January 2012 as they will expire on December 31, 2011. Licensees have until January 30, 2011 to renew their licences. From January 31, 2012 to March 31, 2012 these licences may be renewed but a 25% late payment fee will be payable. From April 01, 2012, unpaid licences may be revoked by the Minister responsible for Telecommunications:

                   1.    Sellers and Dealers;
                   2.    Citizen Band Operators;
                   3.    Amateur Radio Operators;
                   4.    Model Equipment Owners;
                   5.    General Radio Communications;
                   6.    Fishing Vessels and all other Ship Stations;
                   7.    Coast Stations;
                   8.    Aircraft Stations.

Re: Barbados Domain Name Registration Licences (.bb) 
The Public is hereby notified that the ccTLD " .bb" DNS Servers have been updated, 1300h on 10th May 2011, in accordance with the Public Notice disseminated through the print and electronic media.

Public Notice

The public is hereby notified that all Barbados country code Top Level Domain Names (ccTLD) “.bb” without a valid Domain Name Registration Licence issued by the Telecommunications Unit will be deleted from the telecommunications Unit Domain Name System (DNS) Servers effective 31st  March 2011.

Persons who use ccTLD “.bb” for websites/emails and are not holders of the aforementioned licence should immediately contact the Telecommunications Unit Licensing Office via phone at 434 2510 Ext 2580, 2577 or email – info@telecoms.gov.bb to make an application for the licence.

Applications forms may also be downloaded from the Unit’s website at www.telecoms.gov.bb.

Completed application forms, along with the requisite fee, should be submitted to the Chief Telecommunications Officer, Trinity Business Centre, Country Road, St. Michael.

On  May 17, 2010 Barbados will join the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD).
 

This year’s theme is “Better City, Better Life with ICTs”

Barbados intends to mark WTISD with a week-long celebration starting 10th May and culminating on 17th May with an exhibition at Jubilee Gardens, The City.
 

The planned activities include dissemination of information via the print and electronic media. The activities are listed below:

11 May            How e-government can work for the benefit of Barbados
12 May            e-banking in Barbados and the benefits of using  .bb domain name
13 May            How Video Conferencing works

Wi-net Inc. Receives Telecommunications Licences
On 11 February 2010, Raphael Jordan of Wi-net received the telecommunications licences that would allow Wi-net Inc. to offer Public Internet Services throughout Barbados.
Mr. Jordan stated that he was extremely happy to receive the licences and was anxious to start offering service to the public.
